A possible military strike on Syria is now the newest impediment to clearing the immigration reform bill in the House. Earlier, the immigration reform was overshadowed by the budget deadline and now the Syrian military action.
Out of the limited time the Congress has, the debates on budget and Syria are going to take up most of the time. There’s hardly any chance for immigration reform for the coming weeks.  Even though, the immigration reform bill might get debated in the house, there’s little chance if any that the House will clear it with a majority despite the rallying and aggressive lobbying by immigration reform supporters.
Congress is to reconvene on Monday, 9th September; however, with hardly nine days on its hand, there’s a lot on its plate and very little time to debate upon it.
The month of August has proved to be a satisfactory month for immigration reform supporters garnering support from the larger American public, the Catholic Church, the business community, the farmers and building pressure on the House representatives.
With two high priority deadlines approaching, the Speaker John Boehner has stressed on giving these issues maximum weightage in the House. It is important for the house to prevent the government shutdown by September ending. In addition, the country’s borrowing limit needs to be increased otherwise the economy may go under a debt default.
