Senator Marco Rubio said in a statement that President Obama
is tempted to legalize 11 million if the immigration reform fails to pass in
the House. Rubio believes that the president’s actions in the past year when he
enacted the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) to provide
temporary relief to DREAMers. Government Data indicates that nearly 400,000
children have already benefitted from the program. Rubio’s argument against
this move was the unconstitutionality of the order.
Rubio said that the legalization would happen either ways
whether the House GOP agrees to it or not through an executive order from the
President. However, if the House GOP agrees, at least there would be stricter
border security at the US-Mexico border, more federal taxes and other
provisions that the party could argue its way into if it takes up the House
debate.
The president on the other hand ensures the he is not a
king. Although, deportations bring forth heartbreaking stories, he wouldn’t
want to do anything unconstitutional, which makes it all the more important to
act quickly on the immigration reform bill 2013.
